Do More that a Youth Rally

Rally/Workshop Combo: Bring Keith in to perform “The New Sexual Revolution” for your youth and then conduct a workshop based on “Making Virginity Possible” for their parents. Keith performs the youth rally and then meets with the parents while the youth engage in another activity. (Listening to a band, playing games, eating pizza, hanging out, tearing up the sanctuary, etc...) The logistics may sound challenging but Keith has it down to a science. He has been a pioneer at taking the abstinence movement to parents. If you use Keith’s formatting and system, parents will show up. Freedom entertainment will provide posters to promote both the workshop and rally as well as work with local media to increase turnout.. Positively impact the youth and parents in one night! ·

Reasons to consider adding a parent Workshop to your abstinence youth rally

• The parent workshop increases youth attendance. The workshop gives parents that much more reason to get off the couch and give their children a ride to church. When you add the parent workshop you’ve created more than a youth event. The event now targets adults and youth. Adding the adult element increases turnout, interest, and support.
• One of the most powerful things you can do to change teen behavior is to change adult parenting behavior.
• Educating teens AND parents shows better financial stewardship of your budget. You are meeting the needs of two groups within the church and community without added expense. (Keith will conduct the workshop for FREE if scheduled immediately prior to or after the rally.) Because of this increased scope you may be able to get help with funding the youth event from organizations or departments that would not be interested without the adult component.
• Parents need to be told the truth…and the truth is most parents are dropping the ball when it comes to sexual guidance. You know this, but you have to live with these people. Keith can tell them the truth.
• Offering the parent workshop increases buzz and media coverage. You are not only having a “youth speaker” come in, but a parenting coach and author as well. (Keith’s workshop is based on his book, Making Virginity Possible.)
• You will be able to use Keith’s info sheet (Complete Parent Workshop Kit) to capture parents contact information in order to find volunteers, donors, and advocates. Your organization will be STRONGER as a result of the parent workshop.  Keith is a Christian comedian and youth speaker...he is also an aouthor and non profit strategist...use him.

Adding the parent workshop may not be appropriate for every youth rally. You will need a breakout room and it does require additional work and planning. Contact Keith to see if adding the parent workshop is right for you.

Sample time breakdown for a youth rally with a parent workshop/breakout:

• 6:00 – 6:15 >Teens and parents arrive are greeted and listen to youth praise band. Students “take over” the front of room. Parents stay to the back. Promoters may be worried that the parents will “cramp the style of the youth” by being in the room. Keith’s experience has been that the youth forget they are back there after a couple minutes.
• 6:15 – 7:10 > Keith is introduced and performs his wide open show, The New Sexual Revolution.
• 7:10 – 7:15 > MC explains “the split”. For example, if thus far, everyone has been in the sanctuary, the parents will now move to the fellowship hall while the youth stay in the sanctuary for a concert.Or, the parents can stay in the sanctuary while the youth move to the fellowship hall far pizza and games. The combinations and creativity you can apply are endless.
• 7:15 – 750 > Keith conducts his PowerPoint presentation for the parents while the youth are engaged in a separate activity. This presentation is important for many reasons. An unexpected benefit Keith has noticed is an increase in support for the youth program because parents realize how “toxic” teen culture is and how desperately healthy alternatives hare needed.
• 7:50 – 8:00 > Workshop and youth activity concludes and parents and youth flow back together and exit the building.

This is a sample. Times can be adjusted and there are many variations. The idea is to use the time that the youth are not listening to Keith for Keith to address the adults. Keith has used this combination throughout the country to help stage well attended rallies. More importantly, including the parents has led to an immediate change in family culture.
